Arrival in Vila Nova de Milfontes
Welcome to Portugal!
Our guide will pick you up at the Airport and transfer you to Vila Nova de Milfontes, a charming town in the heart of the Alentejo coastline. This is the perfect place to start your tour, so take some time to explore and breathe in the fresh air. Enjoy your rest here because tomorrow, new adventures await you!
Cycle from Vila Nova de Milfontes to Touril
Your adventure starts in Vila Nova de Milfontes and takes you to a crossing along a paved road over the Mira River.
Soon, you will be heading off-road, where you will ride between agricultural fields and pass by the lovely typical Portuguese village of Longueira. Later, you will arrive at Almograve, where you can make a little detour to see the beaches. After you pass the small village of Cavaleiro, take some time to admire the old lighthouse of Cape Sardão, which has been illuminating adventurous sailors since 1915. The magnificent view will astound you as you witness this perfect connection between the land and the ocean. You will then finish with a scenic ride along the Atlantic Coast and reach your destination, Touril.
Cycle from Touril to Odeceixe
After a delicious breakfast, another brilliant day of shaped cliffs, deserted beaches, and unforgettable golden colors will commence!
First, you will head to the town of Zambujeira do Mar, and you will not be disappointed with the track. Travel back in time when you arrive at Entrada da Barca, a local fishing port, and be delighted with our empty coast that leads you to deserted places which have nearly no access. As you arrive at Odeceixe, cross the river that separates the two most southern regions of Portugal, the Alentejo and the Algarve. This place will mark the end of today’s program! It is time to celebrate with a great dinner in the village. Enjoy!
Cycle from Odeceixe to Arrifana
Start the day by going to one of the most beautiful sceneries on this coast - Odeceixe beach!
Then, you will follow a valley where once caravels sailed to the village of Aljezur, located about five kilometers inland. In Alzejur, ride through the narrow streets and visit the medieval castle! Try the famous sweet potato of Aljezur that grows in the fertile land of the region! It was recognized in 2008 by the European Union as a protected area and food item. You will arrive at Arrifana at the end of the day, an amazing village over the cliffs.
Cycle from Arrifana to Pedralva
Today, you will ride through some forests and move once again closer to the sea when you arrive at the incredible village of Carrapateira.
It is a quiet, pretty, and spread-out village rounded by a wild coast, with copper-colored and ash-grey cliffs speckled in yellow and green scrub. You will then follow a dirt road along the sea where it is possible to see this region at its most beautiful. You will pass stunning beaches and incredible, colorful cliffs. Then, go up on a dirt road through a beautiful round pine forest and arrive at a typical village. Pedralva was once deserted by its residents, but it has since bounced back to life! It was recovered as a hotel known as the Aldeia da Pedralva Slow Village.
Cycle from Pedralva to Sagres
On this last day, you will follow a coastal route that will let you discover some of the most beautiful and secret beaches of the Vicentina coast.
Then, you will ride south until Cape São Vicente, the southwesternmost point of Continental Europe. This is a magical place where we almost hear the echoes of the voices of the sailors and pilgrims. Rounded by monumental cliffs and outstanding views of the coastline, the cape is not only a beauty to behold but also a privileged area to watch the natural phenomenon of bird migration.

We booked two self guided bicycle trips with Portugal Nature Trails (PNT) in May 2023, Alentejo Vineyards and Easy Wild Coast. PNT exceeded our expectations in all regards. We rented e-bikes. Without them we would have had trouble with the distance and elevation (although we are fit and active we are in our late 60s). My spouse is 4ft 10 in (147 cm). PNT fitted her with a new adult ladies XS. Worked perfectly for her. The PNT representative tuned the bikes for us and made sure we were comfortable before he left us to start the self guided trips. The navigation app, Ride With GPS, worked well but on a couple of occasions we had to practice our orientation skills. All part of the adventure. The routes were off road or on back roads with little traffic. Accommodations, which always included breakfast, were above average. Recommendations in the information package for lunch and dinner were excellent. Transportation from Lisbon to the start of the first trip, between trips and back to Lisbon was on time. During the booking process PNT were patient and flexible with our requests for modifications to the itinerary. In summary we would recommend Portugal Nature Trails to anyone wanting a self guided, adventurous bike tour.

Each stop along the way was special and authentic, with beautiful accommodations and incredible food. The bikes were in great working order and the route that was planned was packed with breathtaking scenery. The cycling was a good mix of challenge and leisure.
