Itinerary
Arrival in Lisbon
Welcome to Portugal! Our guide will pick you up and drive to Monte Real.
For today, you will be lodged at the Palace Hotel building, a four-star hotel located in the center of the town. This will be a great opportunity to recover from traveling and recharge your batteries for some nice days of riding on the Portuguese coast!
Bike from Monte Real to Praia da Vieira
Start biking from the center of the village and follow the Lis River that flows out into the ocean.
You will also get to ride through ancient, beautiful pine forests and get to visit the Lagoon of Ervideira, where you can appreciate some of the Atlantic Coast activities and its calm waters. After arriving here, the ocean will be close by and the first sights of it will be in Pedrogão beach. After touching the white sand for the first time, it’s time to ride along the coast an make our way to Praia da Vieira.
Bike from Praia da Vieira to S. Pedro de Moel
On this day you will ride on quiet roads that lay deep inside the beautiful pine forest.
As the ride continues, you will arrive at the village of Marinha Grande. Here you can find parks, cafés and local shops. From Marinha Grande, you will return to the ocean side where you will arrive at São Pedro de Moel. Here, you will be staying at a beautiful beach resort from the late twentieth century. This little town, with its sandy beaches and nice walkways on top of the cliffs, is a great place to watch the sunset.
Bike from S. Pedro de Moel to Nazaré
The journey through the pine forest continues!
The riding of today will be mostly done so on dedicated bike lanes as this region has great infrastructure for bikers. The goal for the day is to reach Nazaré, a beautiful old fishing town that became famous worldwide because of its giant waves which can be seen from the clifftop. The reason for size of these waves is the unusual sea bed formation which has a specific form that creates gigantic swell (this phenomenon is known as the Canhão de Nazaré). This is where Garret McNamara surfed the record-breaking wave of 30 meters back in January of 2013. Apart from the reputation that Nazaré has made for itself in the surfing world, it also has many other attractions that are interesting to discover.
Bike from Nazaré to Alcobaça
This day, you will leave the ocean behind and travel along the Alcoa river so that you can reach Alcobaça.
Halfway through the day, there will be a little settlement of Valado dos Frades, in which you can visit an old train station, famous for its tiles. It was once a winner in the most beautiful train station of Portugal. As you move past Valado, the river will indicate the way to Alcobaça. This charismatic and historical village is an absolute pleasure to visit. Here, you will be able to relax on one of the several beautiful terraces and make use of the swimming pool or SPA, located at your accommodation where you will be staying for the night.
Bike from Alcobaça to Foz Arelho
This day will get you riding back to the coast again. The day will begin descending to Alcobaça.
As you pass by and revisit your favorite terraces, will then ride through a quiet and peaceful agricultural field. Finally, you will arrive at the lovely village of São Martinho do Porto, which holds an incredible ocean bay. Don't forget to take the passage from the village to the ocean! Continue along the coast and end the peacefull Foz do Arelho Village.
Bike from Foz Arelho to Óbidos
On the last day of cycling, you will ride around the lagoon and head to Óbidos.
Before you reach the final destination of this tour, there is still time to relax by the calm lagoon beach in Foz do Arelho. As the ride continues, you will finally arrive at the old medieval settlement of Óbidos. This is your chance to get lost inside the castle walls and pretend that you are its Lord!
