Our guide, Helder, was amazing! He was very professional in dealing with our tour to the Douro valley . He answered to our e-mails ahead of time, called us at the hotel the day before of our tour and was punctual when he picked us at the hotel. Helder is very knowledgeable : he knew a lot about the Douro valley . He is friendly and made sure that our family had the best experience possible . He helped me during the hike by making sure that our intermarry was appropriate for me. This experience was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Europe. I strongly recommend hiking with Portugal Nature Trails.

My wife and I just returned from an amazing experience hiking through the ancient pathways through the vineyards in the Douro Valley. We booked the trip through MACS Adventures who coordinated our journey through a local company, Portugal Nature Trails. The owner of the company, Helder Cerejo, met us at the airport, transported us to our hotel in Porto, and briefed us in detail about our upcoming adventure. We wanted an independent walking tour so we were provided with a GPS, cell phone, topographical maps, and other information descriptive of our hike and the nightly lodgings and restaurants. Helder personally hiked the pathways with GPS and so we had daily tracks that led us from our hotel door through the vineyards and countryside and on to our next lodging. The GPS was unbelievably accurate; it was simply not possible to make a wrong turn. Helder called us most evenings to make sure everything was going smoothly and it was. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and we did not encounter another person on the trail the entire trip. Our bags were transported separately; we left them at the hotel desk upon checkout and they were in our room at the next lodging when we finished the days hike. Everything came off without a glitch. After our last day hiking we took the train back towards Porto. Helder called us the night before to be sure we knew that some labor strikes that we’re ongoing with the railroads would not impact our travel in any way and he was correct, they didn’t. This was a fabulous trip. We did a similar one in Scotland last year and we’ll do another next year. It’s so great to be able to hike through beautiful country without worrying about your bags and burn huge calories which we enjoy replenishing in the evening! Helder did an outstanding job; he is thorough, professional (he has trekked independently through the artic!), and very personable. We will definitely use his company again. Jack (DouroTrekker)

My husband and I just finished a hike around the Douro Valley. What a wonderful experience. Helda supplied excellent notes, a GPS, phone and other equipment which was a pleasant surprise. We had never navigated with one of these GPS’s before, now I think we will never leave home without one. It made the whole experience so easy. Our luggage was transported effortlessly for us each day. The accommodation was fantastic and Helda was in contact with us regularly to make sure everything was ok. The scenery around the Douro Valley is just breath taking, so make sure to add to any trip to northern Portugal.

We have now done three hikes with Portugal Nature Trails; Sintra, Douro Valley and The Algarve. All were excellent beyond words. The folks at PNT are excellent. The trips were all very well organized with a handheld GPS for the route and a local cell phone to use while on the trail. And all the PNT people we interacted with could not have been nicer, the were all super. The hotels were really excellent as well. We travelled with them Feb. 2015, May 2015 and Feb 2016 – can’t wait to have another experience with PNT!

From start to finish, a first-rate experience. Spectacular scenery, accommodations that exceeded our expectations, flawless luggage transfers, and interesting stops along each day’s route: wineries, picturesque towns, traditional bakeries (with wood-fired ovens) and local cafés, even the remains of an Iron Age settlement. The routes had some serious uphills (and downs) – the Douro vineyards are carved into steep hillsides – but the stunning views from the top were worth it – plus, we felt like we really earned our great dinners each evening. Our pre-tour briefing with Carlos was excellent. The GPS tracks were easy to follow. All in all, PNT offered a happy combination of being able to hike on our own, but with a solid support team that took care of all the details. Would definitely recommend PNT to others, and hope to do another tour with them ourselves.

Portugal has deep roots of heart and soul and was filled with memories where old meets new. From Lisbon to Porto and then a trekking journey through the Douro Wine region hitting 50 miles, 5,000 meters in elevation a ton of wine and delicious food. The people and culture are filled with a contagious passion. I will never be the same. The Portugal Nature Trails set us up with the perfect blend of independence and just the right amount of support you need to feel secure and safe and taken care of. They greeted you the first day with transportation, guides and gps units. Then they transported your luggage each day for you. Having a GPS and emergency phone made you feel safe and secure on long hikes through vineyards and small villages. This was a trip of a lifetime and the perfect fit for those who enjoy hiking, food, wine and culture.
