We had a fabulous experience walking two self guided tours (7 days in the Algarve and 5 days in the Douro valley) with Portugal Nature Trails. The company is easy to work with to plan your trip, the tools they provide (electronic tour book and Ride with GPS app) work well, and the hiking routes themselves are fabulous. Accommodations varied a bit but were generally stellar, and the daily luggage transfers were seamless. Pick-up and drop off at the start and finish of our trips were also great. Finally, the overall value is excellent (considering services received, quality of lodging, and the beauty of the selected routes, all balanced against the cost). If you are looking for a company to assist with planning a walking tour in Portugal, you’d do well to consider Portugal Nature Trails.

We had a wonderful 3 day cycling trip in the Douro Valley which was fully arranged via Portugal Nature Trails. The team were SO helpful, including to make a bespoke trip for our group as we needed a shorter trip duration than the standard tours offered. The self guided tour was 100% perfect. We experienced a range of diverse scenery and terrains on our bikes and had the roads or trails to ourselves most of the time. The last day’s cycle down into Pinhao was especially spectacular, and we saw so much more than from in a car or the train. All the accommodation, transfers and bicycles were of high quality, friendly service and we loved every moment of our trip, highly recommended!

Excellent customer service. Very responsive from the planning stage, during the trip and at the end of the trip. We did a self guided combination biking and hiking tour. They were willing to tailor the trip to our liking. Biking for 3 days and then hiking for 3 days in the Algarve region in southern Portugal and then took trains to Porto to do 4 days of biking in the Douro Valley. The accommodations were all excellent. The e bikes were new and worked well.

My wife and I engaged Portugal Nature Trails to plan a non-guided hiking vacation through the Douro Valley, with an emphasis on wineries and wine tastings. The company was professional from beginning to end. All of our arrangements, trail guides, accommodations, restaurants, wineries, etc were organized using two apps – Trip Plans and Ride with GPS. It made everything from staying on the exact track while walking through the many vineyard fields to scheduling wine tastings at wineries we were walking past, a quick and easy process. The accommodations, wineries and restaurants they suggested were all spot on. They really have an intimate knowledge of this area. A special call-out to Quinta da Faisca (Secret Spot Winery) for being one of the best wine tastings we have ever had in any country we have been. It is small, intimate and they really acted as if they appreciated us being there. And, they do not accept tour buses. Less than a mile after we left the Secret Spot Winery, we passed another winery that had no less than eight tour buses in the parking lot. Toward the end of our hiking tour, I had a bit of a medical emergency. The people at Portugal Nature Trails could not have been more helpful. They helped us throughout the process and really showed that they cared about our well-being. If you are ever in Portugal and want to do some hiking, I cannot recommend any company better than Portugal Nature Trails. Highly recommend.

We are a group of 24 pals who go on annual week-long mountain biking trips annually. We chose the Douro Valley supported by Portugal Nature Trails for this year’s ride. Absolutely outstanding! Gustavo, Tiago & Paulo were super experienced, friendly, bilingual and really read our group’s needs well. We ride hard, but take our meals and drinking fairly seriously, too. The lunches prepared by your crew were phenomenal. The hotels and dinner venues never disappointed. 10 out of 10!! Well done Portugal Nature Trails!! Obrigado!!!!

Portugal Nature Trails arranged a cycling trip in the Douro for us. It was great! The hotels were all lovely, the recommended routes were great cycling and easy to follow, suggested activities were super fun. Cycling the Douro is far, and this organization made it super easy and enjoyable.

We recently returned from a wonderful biking trip in the Douro valley organized by Portugal Nature Trails, and they absolutely knocked it out of the park! Having done similar trips before with other agencies in other countries, we were incredibly impressed. From the pre-trip communication and on-trip logistics to the quality of the bikes, routes, and hotels – the overall experience was phenomenal and completely seamless. It was amazing how they found some of the beautiful, smaller backcountry roads to lead us on. The routes were highly curated in ways we could have never planned ourselves. Bikes were also great and very well maintained (Scott Addict with Ultegra & disc breaks). We wholeheartedly recommend this company to anyone looking to explore Portugal and would absolutely love to travel with them again!
