Welcome to Portugal!

Today, you will walk over the Douro River and beyond, as you will head south, east and west. Enjoy and appreciate this incredible scenery of curving vineyards that shift from green to brown as you return to Pinhão. This is an UNESCO World Heritage site and you will understand why!

Pinhão's Train Station

What makes the Pinhão Train Station so special is its decoration, it has sessions covered with traditional portuguese tiles depicting the region's traditional landscapes and activities, especially the cultivation of vineyards. This theme was directly related to the station, which was affirmed as one of the main warehouses for the transport of the wine.

Casal de Loivos Viewpoint

Casal de Loivos Viewpoint has one of the most iconic views of the River Douro. This river is the third-longest river in the Iberian Peninsula, flowing from its source in Spain and finishing in Portugal, it has a length of 897 kilometres (557 mi), and has portuguese sections navigable by boat.

Douro Wine Region

The Douro Wine Region is considered by UNESCO a World Heritage Site. Wine has been produced by traditional landholders in the Douro region for some 2,000 years. Since the 18th century, its main product, port wine, has been world famous for its quality. The region around Pinhão is considered to be the centre of Port wine, with its quintas (farms/estates) that extend along the steep slopes of the river valleys. This long tradition of viticulture is the earth and soul of the area and along the way you’ll find at least two examples able to give you a wine tasting experience, Quinta da foz and Quinta do Bom Fim.
