Pedal eastward along the coastal road toward São Roque, a quaint seaside village known for its black-sand beaches and charming whitewashed church. The gentle ocean breeze and views of the Atlantic set the tone for the journey ahead. Continue to Lagoa, a bustling town where you can pause for a coffee in a local café before heading uphill to the Miradouro da Lua. Here, take in the striking views of the island's rolling hills and the ocean blending seamlessly into the horizon. Ride to Vila Franca do Campo, the island’s former capital, where its picturesque marina and the iconic islet offshore provide a stunning backdrop for photos. From Vila Franca, cycle through the lush countryside of Ribeira das Tainhas, enjoying the peaceful roads flanked by green pastures and wildflowers. Stop at the Whaler Lookout Vigia Baleeira da Furada, a historic vantage point where whalers once scanned the ocean, now offering breathtaking views of the vast Atlantic. The road climbs as you approach Miradouro Lagoa das Furnas, revealing a spectacular panorama of Furnas Lake surrounded by verdant hills. The route takes you down to the Fumarolas Lagoa das Furnas, where you can witness geothermal activity up close, with bubbling hot springs and the unique smell of volcanic steam filling the air. Then at the end of the day, we suggest you experience a swim in the therapeutic and warm waters. This is a worldwide place known for its volcanic waters and gardens.

Begin your ride in Furnas, cycling through its lush valley as you head toward the hidden gem of Lagoa dos Nenúfares. This tranquil lake, often dotted with water lilies, offers a serene stop surrounded by dense greenery and a sense of seclusion. Continue to Lagoa do Congro, a crater lake nestled in a peaceful forest. Its emerald-green waters reflect the towering trees, making it an idyllic place for a break to enjoy nature’s tranquility. The route takes you uphill to the Miradouro Lombadas, a viewpoint with breathtaking vistas of São Miguel’s rolling hills and valleys. Nearby, the Cascata das Lombadas, a secluded waterfall surrounded by vibrant vegetation, invites you for a moment of reflection amid the soothing sound of cascading water. Descending into Ribeira Grande, São Miguel’s second-largest town, explore its charming streets, historic bridges and inviting cafés. The town’s vibrant atmosphere and views of the Atlantic Ocean create a perfect midpoint for your journey. Pedal westward to Santa Bárbara, where you’ll pass by one of the island’s most famous surfing beaches, framed by dramatic cliffs and azure waters. Bike from Calhetas to Ponta Delgada
From the serene Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde to the lush crater lakes and panoramic viewpoints of the Seven Cities crater.
The biggest natural attraction on this island is the Lagoon of the Seven Cities on its western side. Start your ride in Calhetas and through São Vicente de Ferreira, a peaceful village with traditional whitewashed houses and quiet countryside charm. Climbing inland, reach the Miradouro do Pico do Carvão, where breathtaking views of both the north and south coasts await. The expansive panoramas over São Miguel’s green hills and shimmering ocean set the stage for the scenic wonders to come. Continue toward the Lagoa do Canário, a serene, emerald-hued lake surrounded by dense pine forests. Nearby, the trail leads to Lagoa de Santiago, a stunning crater lake framed by steep, lush slopes. Stop at the Miradouro do Cerrado das Freiras for one of the island’s most iconic views, with Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Verde in the distance, nestled in the Sete Cidades caldera.
