My husband and I just had the most wonderful experience hiking the Algarve coast. First, let me thank Portugal Nature Trails for making this one of the most outstanding trips ever. Felipe, Paolo and Sophia are the best! We had everything we needed to make our hike enjoyable and worry free. The accommodations were fantastic and everyone we met couldn’t be nicer or more helpful. The hike was extraordinary. The Algarve coastline is breathtaking. We will be talking about this vacation for many years to come. The Algarve is a treasure. Beautiful people, beautiful country.

We just returned from Portugal Nature Trails Algarve Cliff Hike. The hike went off without a hitch, the accommodations were great and luggage was always transferred on time. During the planning stages, PNT was most responsive, making a few modifications of the walk to suit our desires. They added a day at the end of the walk so we could walk part of the Rota Vicentina, and they booked us into a fabulous boutique hotel in Lisbon at a great rate. A personalized transfer to/from Lisbon was included and was made by one of their guides, so we got to learn the ins and outs of the hike as we made the 3 hour trip. PNT’s walks include a loaner GPS and local phone, which is unique for this type of adventure. We’ve used the bigger companies that offer hikes in many countries, and they simply cannot match the service or local knowledge of Portugal Nature Trails. We are looking forward to a return to Portugal and another hike organized by Portugal Nature Trails.

Put this trip on your bucket list. It is utterly amazing. Five days of walking with spectacular scenery. Four days on the cliff tops and one day inland. It was beyond expectations in every way. It is set up so you simply cannot fail – so long as you put in some fitness training. The care pack given included a GPS, a Portuguese telephone with 24hour help, a guide book, battery chargers, and cute footprint luggage tags. My bags were transported daily, Accommodation was of a good standard, and an excellent shuttle service provided. I was alone for many hours but felt very un-alone whilst surrounded by nature. Once you leave behind the tour buses it is spectacular. Go for it . I have never done anything like this before on my own and now have the confidence to take on more.

Five days hiking from Lagos to Sagres was a real treat for us. The views were amazing, while the one day ‘in-land’ hike was a good change of scenery. We had a couple of rest days planned, which was good because it gave us the opportunity to switch a hiking day with a rest day depending on the weather forecast. Portugal Nature Trails was very accommodating to make these switches as it required changes to taxi schedules. The trail from Lagos to Sagres is part of the Fishermens Trail. We are a 65+ couple who skipped to most challenging part (first part of the Selema to Sagres section). The GPS trail provided leads you at times closer to the cliff than we liked, so we just stayed for some sections on the marked Fishermens trail. The driver, who picked up from Faro Airport made sure, before leaving us at the hotel in Lagos, that we knew the challenging areas of the trail, where we could encounter a detour because of road work and that we had the GPS data available on our iPhone. Support from Portugal Nature Trails is 24 hours via WhatsApp. We used it a couple of times to rearrange taxi pickup/dropoff. We highly recommend Portugal Nature Trails.

The self-guided Algarve Cliffs hiking trip was wonderful! Portugal Nature Trails did an amazing job. We planned this trip, canceled the trip, changed the trip, planned it again… and throughout the PNT staff was kind, generous, responsive and easy to work with. During the trip, they were easily accessible and always responsive. What a pleasure! And the Algarve — beautiful! The cliffs and ocean make for dramatic and ever-changing scenery. The trails were mostly wonderful, but some intense storms made for some tricky descents. The GPS worked really well. The hotels and guest houses were all comfortable and provided delicious and hearty breakfasts. And our dinners in each town were fantastic! I would happily do another self-guided trip with PNT.

Portugal Nature Trails customer service was great. They helped us combine two hiking trips in the Algarve into one – and then I had to cancel. When we were able to go on the trip, they pulled it together again in just a few days. GPS for the hikes worked well. All the hotels were good. Customer service is provided during the trip via WhatsApp; they were very responsive to our questions regarding transports, trails and weather.

We used Portugal Nature Trails as the local destination management company for our weeklong hike in the Algarve. Carlos met our flight and delivered us to our first hotel and provided lots of useful information, tips, and recommendations. We met up again with Carlos at the end of our hiking week for the return trip to the Faro airport and he was equally lively & helpful. He was about to go on his own vacation so we hope he had a terrific time cycling!

PNT was our local support with a self guided hiking trip that we booked with another company. PNT was great to deal with. Prompt response on questions. We had delays with our flights but communicating with PNT was easy. All our transfers were on time and luggage was waiting when we arrived in our next village along the hike. We were so lucky to have Carlos pick us up initially at the Faro Airport to drive us to Lagos and then to have him at the end our trip for drive back. Carlos shared great info and tips about Portugal and the areas we were visiting. He is fun and friendly, (Carlos, hope you enjoy your travels this year, as well)! I would look to them to plan my tour if visiting Portugal again.
