TOUR GRADES

We use a simple grading system to give you an idea of the level of fitness and riding/hiking experience required for each tour.

The grading system begins with Easy, which represents our easiest tours with short distances and few elevation gain, and goes up to Extreme, the most challenging tours, requiring a substantial amount of fitness and willpower!

Tour grade 1/5

Our easiest tours are particularly recommended for newcomers and for families. Short distances on flat terrain, no notable hills or anything of steep gradient (2 to 3 hours per day).

A typical stage would be

Hiking: 5 to 10km
Hybrid Cycling: 15 to 25km, low ascent
Road Cycling: 20 to 30km, low ascent

Tour grade 2/5

Leisure tours will suit those who have some experience and average fitness through regular exercise. You can find some hills, possible short gradients of low percents (3 to 4 hours per day).

A typical stage would be

Hiking: 7 to 12km, max 400m up
Hybrid Cycling: 30 to 50km, max 500m up
Road Cycling: 30 to 60km, max 500m up
Mountain Biking: 20 to 40km, max 500m up

Tour grade 3/5

These tours are for regular cyclists / hikers and demand a better standard of fitness and ability, usually gained through regular exercise cycling / hiking. Expect some long days with climbs (3 to 6h per day).

A typical stage would be

Hiking: 10 to 20km, max 800m up
Hybrid Cycling: 40 to 70km, max 1000m up
Road Cycling: 50 to 80km, max 1200m up
Mountain Biking: 30 to 70km, max 1000m up

Tour grade 4/5

These itineraries are designed for stronger cyclists and hikers with a good level of fitness. There will be challenging climbs along the way or very long days. MTB tours require good bike handling and good off-road experience (4 to 8h per day).

A typical stage would be

Hiking: 15 to 25km, max 1200m up
Hybrid Cycling: 50 to 90km, max 1600m up
Road Cycling: 70 to 130km, max 1800m up
Mountain Biking: 50 to 90km, max 1600m up

Tour grade 5/5

These tours are for avid bikers / hikers that should be very experienced. These trips really do require a substantial amount of fitness and plenty of physical fitness too! (5 to 10h per day).

A typical stage would be

Hiking: 15 to 30km, max 1600m up
Hybrid Cycling: 50 to 120km, max 2500m up
Road Cycling: 80 to 160km, max 2500m up
Mountain Biking: 50 to 120km, max 2500m up
